Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemicals Project

Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemicals Project

Nghi Son Refinery is the second planned oil refinery in Vietnam. It is located about 200 kilometers south of Hanoi. Construction began in October 2013, and refinery operations are targeted for 2017. Planned capacity will be slightly greater than that of Vietnam's first Dung Quat refinery.
The Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical plant will have the capacity to process 200,000 barrels of crude oil a day imported from the Middle East, producing petrochemical products such as gasoline, diesel oil, kerosene, jet fuel and polypropylene.

Engineering and Construction

A Joint Venture formed by Chiyoda Corp., JGC Corp., Technip, and South Korean contractors GS Engineering & Construction and SK Engineering & Construction were awarded an EPC contract in January 2013. JGC acts as the Joint Venture leader.

Ownership and Operations

The owner is Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LC., which is a joint venture formed by Petrovietnam, Kuwait Petroleum, Idemitsu Kosan and Mitsui Chemicals.

Van Leeuwen

Van Leeuwen Singapore booked the contract for delivery of seamless carbon steel pipes to the Korean contractor SK Engineering & Construction. Our long term relationship with the Japanese EPC lead, JGC Corporation, helped us to win this contract. Because of its global procurement network, Van Leeuwen is able to buy pipe material at competitive prices. Minimum ex mill quantities can be absorbed using our local stocks. These stocks, at its turn, are useful for the supply of small quantities during the whole project.

Delivery of the material has started in 2015 and will continue until the end of 2016.
